CCGO/AIPG AWARDS AT 2002 CALIFORNIA STATE SCIENCE FAIR
Reported by Dave Sadoff

The California Council of Geoscience Organizations has been actively promoting school science fairs for the past several years by giving out the two AIPG Student Geoscience Awards, valued at $250 each. State Science Fair awards given in Los Angeles (May 21, 2002) by AIPG California Section President Dave Sadoff and CCGO President and AIPG California Section Vice President Jim Jacobs.Jim Jacobs with Senior Division Winner William S. Man of Los Angeles County.

The AIPG Student Geoscience Awards were given on behalf of the California Council of Geoscience Organizations to two enthusiastic future scientists. The winners did work that was well beyond their apparentJim Jacobs and Dave Sadoff with Junior Division winner Regina Dettmer of San mateo County. grade level. To get to this science fair, the students had to win two other competitions, no mean feat in a large state like California, where competition is severe!

William S. Man of Los Angeles County, who evaluated deep sea cores, won the Senior Division Award, and the Junior Division winner was Regina M. Dettmer of San Mateo County, who evaluated the Owl Creek watershed. Our congratulations to both of these bright young people!
