CCGO EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS - GEOLOGISTS AND YOUTH
CCGO Past President Jim Jacobs and AIPG CA Section President Dave Sadoff present the 2002 AIPG Science Fair Awards to Regina M. Dettmer and William S. Man.
The California Council of Geoscience Organizations has been actively promoting geoscience education in several venues.

SCIENCE FAIR AWARDS

CCGO has worked in conjunction with AIPG (American Institute of Professional Geologists) for the past several years by giving out two CCGO/AIPG Student Geoscience Awards, valued at $250 each, at the California State Science Fair.

CCGO provides the funding for the award given to outstanding science students in both Junior and Senior divisions, and AIPG provides travel funding for the delegates to attend the event.

Winners are chosen for doing work that was well beyond their apparent grade level. To get to this science fair, the students had to win two other competitions, no mean feat in a large state like California, where competition is severe! Science Fair Awards for 2004

CCGO AND BOY SCOUTS, GIRL SCOUTS

CCGO is in the process of setting up a program to work with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to connect CCGO geologist members with the Scouts in working toward their Geology Badges.

CCGO SPEAKERS BUREAU

CCGO can provide speakers for any educational group from K-12, museums, and universities to graduate level, as well as professional groups. A list of speakers and their current speaking topics will be provided on this website by early 2004.

CCGO also posts a list of Earth Science Resources for Teachers on our website. These resources are meant to encourage teachers and students to become aware of the wonderful variety of resources in libraries and the internet.

CCGO MENTORS PROGRAM

CCGO has over 3000 members, through its member organizations and businesses. Through our newsletter and email alerts, we may be able to provide mentors for students, researchers, and professionals. Sequoia Middle School recently called on CCGO to help connect their students with mentors for a geology hike in Point Mugu State Park, December 12, 2003. Story in CCGO Highlights, Spring, 2004.
